Lesson Practice

Today's lesson — "My attack thoughts are attacking my invulnerability." — invites you into a deeper experience of the Course's central teaching. As with every lesson in the workbook, the emphasis is on application rather than intellectual understanding. Let the idea for today accompany you throughout your day.

Begin your practice periods by repeating the idea slowly to yourself. Then close your eyes and let your mind be still for a moment. Don't try to force any particular experience — simply hold the idea gently in your awareness and notice what arises.

Throughout the day, return to today's idea whenever you remember. Each time you apply it — especially in moments of stress, conflict, or uncertainty — you strengthen your connection to the peace that lies beneath all surface appearances.

Key Themes

  • Attack: This lesson touches on the Course's teaching about attack, inviting you to explore what this means in your direct experience.
  • Thoughts: This lesson touches on the Course's teaching about thoughts, inviting you to explore what this means in your direct experience.
  • Holiness: This lesson touches on the Course's teaching about holiness, inviting you to explore what this means in your direct experience.
  • Fear: This lesson touches on the Course's teaching about fear, inviting you to explore what this means in your direct experience.

Practice Notes

  • Repeat the idea for today slowly and with intention at the start of each practice period
  • Close your eyes and sit quietly for a moment after repeating the idea
  • Apply the idea specifically to situations and people throughout your day
  • Don't judge yourself if you forget — simply return to the idea when you remember
  • Let the practice be gentle and without pressure

Contemplation

Sit with today's idea for a few quiet moments. There is no need to analyze or understand it intellectually. The workbook's approach is experiential — understanding comes through practice, not through thinking about practice.

What would your day look like if you truly held this idea in mind? How might your responses to people and situations shift? Let these questions rest lightly in your awareness without demanding answers.

From Walking the Workbook

Beloved, today's lesson connects the mind's outward attack with what it does to the mind itself.

What we really are, at the level the Course calls Christ, is invulnerable. Cannot be harmed. Cannot be diminished. The attack thoughts we produce do not, the Course says, harm anyone in any final way. What they do is convince the mind that produces them that it is vulnerable, harmable, in need of defense.

The attack thoughts are not attacking other people. They are attacking the mind's own recognition of what it is.

For today. Apply the idea. Notice an attack thought. This thought is attacking my invulnerability. Sit with it for a moment.

60:T4b7,[Enhanced Stereo] [Intro] (quiet) I thought I was protecting something… [Verse1] Every time I feel the tension I call it something coming in like the world is pressing on me like I need to hold against it I build a line around the feeling try to keep it where it stands but the harder that I hold it the tighter it becomes I said it’s them I said it’s this I said it’s something I can fix but it follows me in everything like it’s tied to what I think [Verse2] I’ve been calling it protection like it’s keeping me from harm but it feels a little different like it’s coming from my guard every time I brace against it every time I close it down it circles back around me in the same familiar sound [Bridge] (soft) if I’m holding up the defense… then I’m holding in the pain [Outro] I don’t have to fight it… I don’t have to hold it… [Solo]
