Lesson Practice

Today's lesson — "God is the light in which I see." — invites you into a deeper experience of the Course's central teaching. As with every lesson in the workbook, the emphasis is on application rather than intellectual understanding. Let the idea for today accompany you throughout your day.

Begin your practice periods by repeating the idea slowly to yourself. Then close your eyes and let your mind be still for a moment. Don't try to force any particular experience — simply hold the idea gently in your awareness and notice what arises.

Throughout the day, return to today's idea whenever you remember. Each time you apply it — especially in moments of stress, conflict, or uncertainty — you strengthen your connection to the peace that lies beneath all surface appearances.

Key Themes

  • God: This lesson touches on the Course's teaching about God, inviting you to explore what this means in your direct experience.
  • Light: This lesson touches on the Course's teaching about light, inviting you to explore what this means in your direct experience.
  • Vision: This lesson touches on the Course's teaching about vision, inviting you to explore what this means in your direct experience.
  • Truth: This lesson touches on the Course's teaching about truth, inviting you to explore what this means in your direct experience.

Practice Notes

  • Repeat the idea for today slowly and with intention at the start of each practice period
  • Close your eyes and sit quietly for a moment after repeating the idea
  • Apply the idea specifically to situations and people throughout your day
  • Don't judge yourself if you forget — simply return to the idea when you remember
  • Let the practice be gentle and without pressure

Contemplation

Sit with today's idea for a few quiet moments. There is no need to analyze or understand it intellectually. The workbook's approach is experiential — understanding comes through practice, not through thinking about practice.

What would your day look like if you truly held this idea in mind? How might your responses to people and situations shift? Let these questions rest lightly in your awareness without demanding answers.

From Walking the Workbook

Beloved, the lesson continues to develop the relationship.

God is, today, the light in which seeing happens. The Course is not saying God is a literal light. It is saying that the medium of true seeing — the conditions under which vision becomes possible — is the presence the Course has been calling God.

The lesson asks for an extended practice today. Longer than the previous days' applications. The Workbook suggests sitting quietly, eyes closed, repeating the idea, and allowing what arises to arise without managing it.

This is the first lesson that introduces the practice of sitting more substantially. The Course is preparing us for the longer meditative work that will become more frequent in later lessons.

For today. Apply the idea as the Workbook directs. Sit with it for the longer practice if you can.

[Intro] (soft) maybe I was never seeing in the dark… [Verse1] I kept trying to read the shadows like they told me something true every fear became a filter every doubt became the view I was looking through the distance through the stories in my mind but the moment something opened everything began to widen [Pre-Chorus] it was never in the fear… [Chorus] God is the light in which I see every moment opening in front of me I was searching through the shadows but the light was always here [Verse2] Every line begins to soften every edge begins to glow like the world is less defended when I finally let it show I don’t have to force the meaning I don’t have to close my eyes there’s a clarity surrounding everything I thought I knew [Chorus] God is the light in which I see every moment opening in front of me I was searching through the shadows but the light was always here 🌊 [Ambient Guitar Lead] (soft) nothing changed outside me [Bridge] (soft) nothing changed outside me… only how I see [Final Chorus] God is the light in which I see every moment opening in front of me I was searching through the shadows but the light was always here [Outro] (soft) always here[Fade 5 seconds]
